Admission to Jordanhill School

The School is neither a local authority nor an independent school and has its own unique admissions procedures. These procedures are reviewed annually by the Board of Managers.

The main entry points are Primary 1 (66 places) and Secondary 1 (a further 33 places). The offer of these places and any occasional vacancies which may arise from P1 to S2 are governed strictly by the Admissions Regulations.

Admission to S3/S4

Vacancies which arise in S3 and S4 are offered only to ‘local’ children resident in List 1 or List 2. The offer of places is otherwise governed by the Admissions Regulations.

Admission to S5/S6

Entry to S5 or S6 is governed by a separate admissions process. (See below)

In general terms, priority for admission is given to children who reside ‘locally’. The school has 3 waiting lists. In order of priority these are:

List 1   Applicants living in a designated ‘local’ address

List 2   Applicants living in a supplementary ‘local’ address

List 3   Applicants living in any other address

Within each list priority is given to applicants with siblings in the school and pupils are ranked strictly by the official date of receipt of their application.

Admission to S5 or S6

Jordanhill School works in partnership with local state and independent schools and we do not canvas interest in joining us.

A number of students enter at the S5 or S6 stage every year because

  • they have recently moved to Glasgow or surrounding district
  • they believe we can cater better for their curricular needs
  • their personal circumstances have changed

How do I apply to enter S5 or S6?

If you are interested in joining Jordanhill School in S5 or S6 you should

  • Contact the Depute Rector to express your interest
  • Complete and submit an application form
  • Attend for interview with your parent/guardian when invited

Are there any entry criteria?

We do not select by ability and we do not charge any fees. We will admit you only if we can meet your educational and pastoral needs and do so without detriment to existing students and without incurring additional costs. For example, we will not establish an additional course or class because you wish to join us.

You must tell us

  • The name of your current school
  • The courses you are currently studying and your expected level of performance
  • Any additional support needs you have
  • The courses you would like to study in S5 and/or S6

If we think we may be able to meet your needs and you wish to continue with your application, we will then contact your current school to confirm the information supplied.

We will not admit you if you are the subject of ongoing disciplinary sanctions by your current school.  We also expect you and your parent/guardian to honour any obligations to your current school.

International Students

Jordanhill School does not have any boarding or accommodation facilities and cannot accept ‘parental’ responsibility for any student. We will, however, consider applications for entry to S5 or S6 from overseas student who already have care and accommodation arrangements in hand. Several overseas students have successfully completed a period of study at the school.

For example, if you intend to stay with a family friend in Glasgow or the surrounding districts who will be authorised to act ‘in loco parentis’. That is, this person can fulfil all of the functions of a parent or guardian during your time at the school.

Please contact the Depute Rector if you are interested in joining us.
