Young Musician of the Year 2022

This year’s Young Musician of the Year competition takes place this term.  Auditions will be held after the February holiday and the Young Musician Final will take place on Thursday 17th March at 7pm.

There are two sections:  Junior competition for S1 – S3 pupils and the Senior competition for S4 – S6 pupils.

Singers, drum kit players and traditional instrument players are not eligible to participate.  All orchestral instruments and pianists are invited to take part.

Auditions:  All entrants will play one complete piece at audition stage.  Junior competitors must perform at minimum level grade 2.  Senior competitors must perform at minimum level grade 5.

Final:  If successful at audition stage, Junior competitors will play one piece in the final.  Senior competitors will prepare a programme of contrasting music not exceeding 10 minutes.  Two external judges will be present to adjudicate both competitions.

What are we looking for?  Successful competitors will be those who prepare well for their audition allowing them to give a technically assured performance which also displays considerable musical sensitivity.
